چکیده

In this paper, we summarize the present methods available for providing user interfaces for disability applications. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 has contributed to providing accommodation to people with disability, and is generally considered a step in the right direction. As many modalities of interaction have become a focus, we propose multi-channel customized interfaces, where a person can take many types of inputs and map some portions of each of them to the output channels available, emerging as a sound design principle. Uniquely customizing interfaces provides an opportunity for all, especially people with disabilities. In addition, the possibility of creating user interfaces for special cases and on demand helps to provide inclusive computing.

Multimodal and Multichannel Issues in Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing

For the general public, the year 1984 marks the emergence of WIMP (Windows, Icon, Menu, Pointing device) interfaces. Developed at Xerox PARC in 1973 and popularized by the Macintosh, this type of graphical user interfaces is still largely used today, on most computers. However, in recent years, numerous scientific researches focus on post-WIMP interfaces. It is no longer limited to a single way...
